- Real Estate Appraisal SchoolApplicants for a state issued real estate appraisal license must complete a minimum of 150 hours of real estate appraisal education, pass the state license examination in the state that you live in, and complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of real estate appraisal experience while working with a certified or higher real estate appraiser. Have the requirements for obtaining an appraisal license changed? Yes. On January 1st, 2008, the requirements changed. Click Here for the new minimum national requirements for individuals applying for a real estate appraiser license or certification. What kind of background or skills do you need to become an appraiser? Real estate appraisers are problem solvers. Basically, they assemble a series of facts, statistics, and other information regarding specific properties, analyze the data, and develop value estimates. Each appraisal assignment challenges the appraiser's ability to put analytical skills into practice, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively with people. What kind of course schedules does Bobbitt and Company offer? Bobbitt and Company offers Qualifying Education (formerly pre-license) courses on weekends or weekdays. These courses run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch. Courses are held at our offices at 10580 Barkley, Ste 440 in Overland Park, KS. Click on the Locations tab for a map and directions. What is the cost for these courses? 30hr courses are $525 each, 15hr courses are $265, National USPAP course (QE-206) is $295, a total of $2,665 for the 150 hours of Qualifying Education required by the Kansas Real Estate Appraisal Board and The Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission. Payment is accepted by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash, or by personal check. When does payment need to be made? Payment needs to be made prior to the first class. You can pay for either just the first course or all of the Qualifying Education courses. This reserves a place in class for you (there is a limited number of seats per class). If payment is received at least 2 weeks prior to the first class then we will mail the Basic Appraisal Principles book to you so you can read the beginning chapters prior to the first class. How do I register for classes? You may register online by clicking here, printing the registration form from our website and faxing it to 913-491-4165, or by calling in your information. Do I need to take exams in both Kansas and Missouri if I am working in both states? No. You only take the exam in the state you live in. When you pass the state exam and complete your 2,000 hours and receive your appraisal license you can then request a reciprocal license from the other state that you want to work in. When is the best time for searching for a supervising appraiser or appraisal company? The best time is when you have passed your state exam and have completed your 90 hours of real estate appraisal education. How do I find a supervising appraiser or appraisal company? The best way is to network with friends, family members, and business acquaintances that may have connections to the appraisal field. Another option would be to contact appraisal companies in the yellow pages. Do you help students find supervising appraisers or companies to work for? We are not a placement service but will pass on job openings to students. What is the website address for the Kansas Real Estate Appraisal Board? (Be sure to request a new student packet!)
